Numerical study on the effects of groundwater table oscillation beneath the “Palazzaccio” courthouse in Rome

This work aims to evaluate the settlement induced by river Tiber groundwater table oscillations. A representative section of subsoil beneath courthouse “Palazzaccio”, close in city centre Rome, is analysed via finite element method with a fully coupled hydro-mechanicalmodel. The effects wetting-drying cycles water oscillation are accounted for adopting Barcelona Basic Model unsaturated layers, whose model parameters calibrated using experimental results on saturated and samples literature data. variation level reconstructed according “ Tevere – Ripetta ” hydrometric station records between 2005 2008, it applied as boundary condition at domain.
